Here is Barry Coker on another clip I just found. (coming from the left corner of the ring) He is 2nd gen Instructor with Jerry Poteet. You can find the other clips when you run a search on YouTube. This is just the final minutes. There are those who believe that JKD will not be suited for nor have place (success) in combat sports fighting. I know that my brother Victor Colon has trained a fighter in his stand up to enter a cage match (which he won). What are your thoughts?

Relative to striking, I think that the vast majority of cage fighters have a long way to go to say the least. As mi hermano Norman mentioned, I train a few guys that fight and am adamant that what I am teaching them is not JKD. But I do infuse JKD principals in their drills and training that enhance their fighting skills. And though JKD is not bound by rules or limits, a cage fighter can use certain JKD principals and the scientific mechanics and application to be a better fighter, even if they do so within the parameters of certain rules. Gary’s next fight is at the Harrah’s Casino in Metropolis, St. Louis on October 18th.

Greetings!

I just got back in town. Gary won in the third round, it was a good fight. He had his opponent in a triangle, the guy picked him up and tried to slam him but Gary ended up with the triangle from the top and was pounding down on his head…the guy tapped out. The referee called it tapout due to triangle, but I could see the speed bumps on his head and when Gary opened his eye. The guy was game for sure! Gary had the referee about to stop the fight at the end of the first and second rounds due to strikes, but they guy was saved by the bell. It was a good time at a nice event.

Take care,

Victor

Victor, Congratulations to both of you! It was no surprise to me that your friend won. You had been more to him than a coach and being there by his side was surely an inspiration. Keep up the good fight and do email me with your recovery status. I'm planning on Tulsa (which was totally last minute) I'll let you know what I do.
